The founding texts of the environmental conscience (2011-2014)

This seminar offers an outline of the awaking of the environmental conscience in the western world. The first part of the seminar gives an historical point of view and the different texts will be studied chronologically, from the 19th century to nowadays. The second part will embrace a thematic perspective around various oppositions that structured the environmental and social thought: progress/limits; preservationism/conservationism; anthropocentrism/biocentrism; growth/degrowth; etc. From a practical point of view the seminar will consist in comments and discussions about the texts.
