Annick Leick

After completing a degree as an architect at the Institut Supérieur d'Architecture de la Communauté Française - LA CAMBRE, Brussels, Annick Leick continued her studies with the International Research Master in Metropolitan Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin.

She received a PhD in Geography at University of Luxembourg and is currently working as a FNS senior researcher at the University of Lausanne. She is member of the team M3 (Materialities | Multiplicities | Metropolis).

Annicks work, broadly speaking, focuses on spatial planning and urban development policies and the related decision-making, planning and implementation processes. More precisely she examines governance structures and practices as well as discourses and rationales reproduced for legitimating and evaluating spatial and urban planning policies. In her PhD project (defended in 2016) she analyzed large-scale urban development projects (LUPs) in Luxembourg as an urban expression of the ambition of the small country Luxembourg to play a prominent role on the international stage. At UNIL she will investigate the significance, potential and modes of improvisation in the context of urban development and planning and she will contribute to establish and evaluate a database on mega-events and explore the analytical benefits and challenges of large datasets.
