Aurélie Schmassmann joined the Institute of Geography and Sustainability in February 2020 as an assistant and doctoral student. She is a member of the Geography of Mobility team, headed by Patrick Rérat. Her thesis focuses on cycling among young people (aged 12-20) in French-speaking Switzerland. In particular, she is looking to identify the social and territorial influences on young people's cycling (and non-cycling) trajectories.

Aurélie holds a Master's degree in Geography, specialising in Sustainable Urban and Regional Planning, from the University of Lausanne, and has already had the opportunity to work on the subject of cycling during her Master's thesis. She went on to specialise in mobility issues through 4 years of professional experience with a transport engineering company.

As well as her doctoral thesis, Aurélie has the opportunity to work on various research projects at the University Observatory for Cycling and Active Mobility (OUVEMA).
