Résumé: Aerial cableways are a means of transport that Europeans are basically familiar with from winter sports in the mountains. In recent years the press has increasingly reported on aerial cableways in urban areas in the Global South, but in many European cities this means of transport is now being discussed. This master's thesis deals with the policy mobilities of urban aerial cableways between the Global South and the Global North. For this purpose, the author uses a quantitative method to evaluate cartographically and statistically the dynamics of this transport policy. In addition, a qualitative approach based on interviews with experts, operators and manufacturers is used. The exchange between the Global South and the Global North seems almost inexistent. Another important pillar of this master’s thesis is the question of accessibility of urban aerial cableways. In principle, it can be seen that aerial cableways may be a solution to some current mobility issues in cities, but there are many uncertainties among planners and decision-makers in Europe, which are fuelled by a lack of accessibility of information. The spread of this transport policy has so far been prevented mainly by linguistic differences between the actors and by different framework conditions among the countries. The results show that universities and manufacturers in particular have a responsibility to provide planners and decision-makers with the necessary information to make urban aerial cableways accessible to cities in the Global North. Some countries, such as France, prepare the data and make it available to planners and decision-makers. The accessibility of urban aerial cableways in Europe therefore depends above all on the accessibility of information on the means of transport and the promotion of the exchange of best practices with the Global South.
