Postdoctoral Researcher

Benjamin Schmid is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD) of the University of Lausanne. He has a background in political and sustainability science and holds a PhD in economic geography from the University of Bern. His research centres on the governance of the energy transition, with a specific focus on the role of citizens and community initiatives. Benjamin previously worked at the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL in a project of the SNSF National Research Programme 71 and in the Horizon 2020 projects SONNET, at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) at the Institute of Sustainable Development (INE), and EnergyPROSPECTS, at the Geography Department of the University of Galway, Ireland. In his current role at IGD, he is involved in various projects related to research into the governance of the energy transition, including SWEET LANTERN.
