Research fields
Periglacial geomorphology
Researches on cartography of the permafrost distribution, stratigraphy, morphodynamics and alpine periglacial palaeoenvironments, geophysical prospecting of permafrost and periglacial hydro(geo)logy
The researches are based on the followings themes:
Regional scale cartography based on empirical models and local scale cartography based on geophysical and thermal methods.
Palaeogeographical reconstruction of the past permafrost distribution. Rockglacier's relative dating. Stratigraphy of high alpine talus slopes.
Permafrost prospecting with resistivity (Vertical Electrical Sounding and tomography), electromagnetics (EM 31 and VLF-R), seismics and self-potential geophysical methods, for the study of the spatial distribution of ground ice and of the processes and facts.
Study of the groundwater runoff in the coarse sedients of the alpine periglacial zone with the self-potential method.
Quaternary geomorphology
Lateglacial paleogeography of the Mont Gelé region (Val de Bagnes, Val de Nendaz) and of the Blenio Valley (Tessin)
Study of the Lateglacial and Holocene glacier fluctuations of the Rhone and Ticino glaciers. Researches about the paraglacial dynamic of glacier-related sediments. Sedimentological analysis of coarse deposits of glacial, periglacial and paraglacial origin.
Geomorphosites and lanscape
Collaboration in projets of protection, valorisation and promotion of natural abiotic heritage.
Valorisation of geomorphological landscapes and geomorphosites of the Blenio Valley with publications, conferences and excursions.
Soapstone exploitation
Researches concerning the geological, historical and ethnographical aspects of the soapston exploitation in the Blenio Valley.
Valorisation of the ancient soapston quarries of the Blenio Valley with publications, conferences and excursions.
