Christian Kull is a geographer with particular interest in the social dimensions of environmental change in developing countries, islands, and highlands.

Educated in the United States, he has held university positions in Canada, Australia, and Fiji. Since 2015, he is professor in development studies in the Institute of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Lausanne.

The human dimensions of topics like landscape burning and bushfires, invasive species and plant movements, deforestation and afforestation, protected areas and agrarian change have been central to Christian Kull's research. His fieldwork has tended to concentrate around the Indian Ocean rim, particularly Madagascar but also eastern and southern Africa, India, Australia, and beyond.
