The research studies the trajectory of winter sports resorts built at high altitudes, with a particular interest in the context of the Valaisan Alps.
Borrowing from the tools of historical and architectural research, and adopting an approach specific to environmental history, we are interested in reconstructing the evolution of interactions between architectural and urban planning projects and the natural environments and cultures concerned.
This work leads to a deeper understanding of the current fragility of high-altitude resorts, and allows us to question the concept of obsolescence as it is commonly used to describe the process of neglect of tourist infrastructures.
