The transparency of costs and margins between production and retail is a hot topic in the Swiss media. On the one hand, consumers are increasingly interested in the issue of price fairness paid for food. On the other hand, the agricultural sector is demanding fairer negotiation methods and a better distribution of value along the chain. In this context, this research project aims to shed light on the margins achieved between agricultural production and the consumer within the following agri-food products: milk, meat, cheese, bread, fruit, vegetables, pulses, oils, eggs and wine. It mainly concerns the canton Vaud in Switzerland. To this end, the accounting data of a maximum number of actors will be collected. This access to data will be done by creating a relationship of trust with the actors in question. Explaining the process in detail, getting to know the people involved at each level, and demonstrating the benefits of being more transparent about their costs and margins will be key aspects of this research.

The results of field surveys and anonymised databases will be processed using software developed by the start-up Equal Profit. Following the transparency and analysis of the results with its Transparent Profit and Equal Profit methodology, workshops with stakeholders will be organised in collaboration with AGRIDEA to initiate a discussion among them.
