Anne-Sophie Spinaci

Anne-Sophie Spinaci is a PhD candidate and a teaching assistant at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD) at the University of Lausanne. She holds a Master of Science in Urban Studies from University College of London (UCL) and a Bachelor of Arts in Development studies and Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Her research interests explore complexity, flexibility and uncertainty in urban planning practices and spatial politics. She has previously engaged on issues related to informality and citizen participation, inclusivity and play in urban spaces as part of her activities at UN-Habitat, the Urban planning office of the State of Geneva and at the Urbaplan Swiss urban planning consultancy.

The aim of her doctoral project is to identify instances and patterns of self-organisation within vacant spaces and in the production of urban spaces including housing, ultimately questioning representations and institutional instruments of power.

Her work is supervised by Prof. Gabriela Debrunner within the Planning and Housing (PLANH) research group.
