The Geographical Institute of Lausanne University participates to the revision of the Inventory of Swiss geosites. This inventory was carried out by the Working group for Swiss geotopes (Swiss Academy of Sciences, Scnat) between 1995 and 1998. 401 sites were selected. In 2006, the Working group initiated, with the financial support of the Federal Office for the Environement (FOEN) and the Swiss Academy of Sciences (Scnat) a revision of the inventory. The revision has the objective to document the description of the sites and to complete the list of sites (and merge some geosites). The first step of the revision was completed in 2008 with the validation of a first list of 248 geosites (Berger et al., 2008). The second phase was conclued in March 2011 and the final list accounts 321 sites (Berger et al., 2011). The inventory is currently in a phase of publication.
