My research focuses on the analysis of complex socio-ecological systems in the Global South and the Global North. Through the lens of Development studies and political ecology, I analyse the major issues facing rural communities today in the alluvial plains and deltas. I seek to understand how communities adapt to the pressure of the global economy and at the same time to the impacts of environmental change on the agroecological systems. I develop Geographical Information Systems (GIS) that integrate different indicators to measure and map the interactions between societies and their environments. I develop risk assessments that can help to identify the places the most exposed to hazards. Finally, I observe how agroecological systems are taken into account in environmental policies (agriculture, hydrology, biodiversity conservation) applied by states (India, Bangladesh, France, Italy) by considering the development trajectories adopted on both sides.
